Manufacturing
EverGuard® TPO roofing is a “cool roofing” solution made of polypropylene. Cool roofing is designed to reduce energy consumption, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions. GAF has produced more than 2 billion square feet of EverGuard as an alternative to EPDM and other membranous roofing material.
Each GAF facility has a volunteer Green Champion who monitors plant performance and promotes sustainability goals.
Contractors
GAF’s Cool Roof Energy Savings Tool (CREST) is an online portal that helps contractors estimate energy savings for building owners. Once logged in, contractors can enter the specifics of a Detroit roofing project then receive a generated estimate afterwards. CREST has analyzed more than 24 million square feet total in proposed cool roof installations.
ShingleRecycling.org is created by GAF, the US EPA, and Construction & Demolition Recycling Association (CDRA) as the online resource for facilitating and promoting asphalt shingle recycling. Specifically, GAF has developed a mobile shingle recycling finder. Since 2010, 450 GAF Certified Green Roofers have recycled one million tons of roofing products.
Distribution
The Certified Green Distributor™ Program is a web-based training and certification program for green building material distributors. It is the first — and so far only — program designed to train contractors’ sales personnel on the basics of green building science and green product knowledge, and how to apply it to roofing in Detroit.
Architects
In their commitment to advancing transparency in building products, GAF has completed two Life Cycle Assessments, and received two Environmental Product Declarations and four Health Product Declarations.
