Proving they are more than just a roofing company, the Owens Corning Foundation donated a hefty sum of $500,000 to the Cherry Street Mission Ministries. The said ministry, whose mission is to serve all of those who come to them in need, is responsible for establishing building-trades schools.
The donation has set off the creation of the Owens Corning School for Building Trades. The school, which is to be 4,000 square feet, is expected to open by the third quarter of this year. The Owens Community College will then operate a satellite location from which plumbing, electrical, and rough carpentry skills will be taught.
Making Each Community a Better Place
Owens Corning’s commitment to developing communities has manifested itself in the products and services that they have rendered as a premier roofing manufacturer through the years. This time around, it is through a redevelopment project set to the tune of $22 million. The funds will be funneled towards a Texas Enterprise Zone project in Waxahachie. The program is intended to drive the local industry forward which, in turn, will help the city grow exponentially.
