All our energy-efficient windows feature the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) label for easy guidance. The label provides accurate information on the performance of our windows. It allows you to determine how our windows will help save you money and make your home comfortable.
What is the NFRC Label?
The NFRC developed their label program to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient. It provides accurate information, because the NFRC independently tests, certifies, and labels each product. When you get our replacement windows in Birmingham, you can be sure that they will perform as advertised.
How do you read the NFRC Label?
The NFRC label contains three important ratings. First, is the Visible Transmittance or VT rating, which measures how much sunlight can enter your room through your window. It is a number between zero to one — the higher the number, the more sunlight will get through. This rating is important to be sure your windows can provide your home with abundant sunlight.
Next, the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient or SHGC measures the amount of outside heat that can transfer through your windows. It’s also a number between zero to one, but this time low numbers indicate that not much heat can enter through your home. A low SHGC is important for homes that experience hot summers. It’s also good for homes that want natural lighting. A low SHGC paired with a high VT rating means you’ll have plenty of sunlight, but no heat.
Finally, there’s the U-factor. U-factor ratings generally fall between 0.20 and 1.20, and the lower the rating, the less heat will escape through the windows. This rating is important for homes that experience cold winters, and homeowners who want to save money on heating expenses. As the trusted provider of replacement windows in Birmingham, we recommend that homeowners study these values closely. These ratings will help you decide which replacement windows best fit your needs.
